One Rescuer CPR--Performance Guidelines

 
Adult
Assessment Establish unresponsiveness (gently shake and shout). Activate EMS System.
Airway Breathing Open airway (Tilt chin or jaw thrust).
Check breathing (look, listen, feel).
If breathing is absent, give 2 slow breaths (1 1/2 -2 sec).
Circulation Check carotid pulse.
- If breathing is absent but pulse is present, provide rescue breathing (1 breath every 5 sec; approx. 12 breaths per minute).
CPR - If no pulse, give cycles of 15 chest compressions followed by 2 slow breaths.
(rate: 80-100 compressions per minute)
(depth: 1 2/2 - 2 inches)
Pulse Check After 4 cycles of 15:2 (about 1 minute).
Check pulse and breathing. If no pulse, continue 15:2 cycles beginning with chest compressions.
